Default New Least Favorite Job = Vacuum Tank Removal

Only minutes to remove the tank. 6 small bolts easily accessible from the wheel well. 3 hosed slipped easily off 3 pipes

A little over an hour to remove the steering column (OK, I wanted it out for another reason) to get at the P/B bolts easier (I've been down this road before) and that hideous clip/pin on the brake rod/pedal

Then you can move the PB boaster/master out of the way to allow for the tank to come pivot out. (OK I took the booster/MC off but again, that's another story)

Just to add to the hilarity, drivers seat is still in, cannot open the door all the way, car is off the ground about 18"

One the plus side, the steering box was already out so I didn't have to remove the one bolt on the coupler.

Add this to the list of easy jobs that are a pain because of everything else that's in the way

Radio Removal (those two nuts on the cluster, even using the 1/4 extensions/swivels up from the side)
Gas Line (body on)
E-Brake console (that one nut at the back, sure you can go in from the jack storage bay but really?)
Headlight Switch Replacement (I may put a new one on now while the column is out just because)

C3 Engineers, I want to shake their hands while I kick them in the hoohaa's

I choose to do this

I must be lost on where your vacuum tank is.....I thought mine is in the front near one of the headlights but I've not had the hood up in 2 1/2 years.

You are hilarious. Just listening to your frustration over all the same nasty encounters with our beloved C3s makes me want to laugh...at least now. I sure don't laugh every time I find another one...which I am sure there are many more lying in wait.

I'm not sure when they moved it (I'd guess in 73) but the vac-tanks were tucked into the drivers fender

And they were huge, with additional brackets just in case you thought it would sneak out

I've read that on a manual brake car you might be able to loose the MC enough to pivot it aside and sneak the tank out. Not going to happen with P/B.

Next time I'll do it the easy way and remove the front clip

I still envision Duntov and the boys sitting around the office during morning meetings going;
"...and if we make the belt short enough on the power steering, then they can see the cap and even touch it, and it'll be possible, but it'll be easier to check the fluid level if you actually take the alternator off."

I seem to remember taking my vacuum can out through the fender grill opening.

So they went to the trouble of putting that plate there just to make us think it'll fit?

My 68 convert has the vacuum operated headlight and wiper door mechanisms removed, but I left the vacuum tank in place. One look convinced me it was a three hour job, so I just left it in place even though it now does nothing except take up space in the left fender well.
