Saw good deal on 496 and started entertaining the idea of swapping my freshly installed 383. Other than gas expenses going over the roof, I'll probably need to replace the transmission as well.
Are you talking about old school 496, ie stroked and bored 454 or Modern 496 Multiport injection? We service many of the modern 496's and own one of our own. These are excellant engines and Very easy to maintain. Mega torque and easy to make extream Horse Power. Al
How stout is the rest of your drivetrain? Solid u-joints? Big block half shafts/retainers? Stronger rear diff? Good clutch or "built" auto? Adequate cooling? If you build power with big engines the whole car must improve in lock step or you'll find the weakest link fast, and often.
