Default 1978 Survivor

Need some advice, have searched and haven't found this scenario. My older brother has a 1978 25th which is a survivor. !00% original, I think it's under 30K He is the second owner and car had original tires when he bought it. It has been sitting and deteriorating for at least 10 years or so, under a cover in his barn. I don't believe it has been started and I know the wheel cylinders leaked out the brake fluid. My son and I both have C5's and love them but for a project this one looks interesting. How would I place a value on this car to make him a fair offer?

Thanks and sorry I don't have any pics.

I think you answered your own question.

A '78 with 30K miles left neglected for 10 years that needs repairs is possibly not worth much but impossible to tell with more details. Putting aside sentimental reasons why would you want this particular car?

Well, we both like the way C3's look. We thought about doing/restoring an older pickup when I remembered the C3. Something neat to have both a 25th and a 50th. I wouldn't want to pay more than 10K. Last time I saw it was summer of 2011 and it looks remarkably clean and original under the cover.

Is he even interested in selling? Maybe broach the subject and see what he's thinking.

If its really an original survivor type car, the less you do to it the better, value wise. However, if you want to treat the car as a project, you will eventually spend more than its worth.

However, and not to be disagreeable, but if you really want THAT car then yes you will absolutely spend more than it's worth, but what you end up with is a Corvette that's one of a kind.

It's just my $.02 since I bought a wrecked 78 SA in 04 and got a good price on it considering and I stopped calculating the money I've spent on it because ultimately I just don't care. I may someday have another Vette but I will always have my "78. Cheers.

You haven't mentioned condition of paint and that could be a big ticket item. Whether it runs or not? And you've identifed the fact that it more than likely no longer has the capacity to stop. From what you describe I'm thinking in the $2,500 range.

Is it for sale? Let your brother put his value on it.

I just didn't want to offend him. The paint looked great, not recently waxed lol. He has some older items but he is now in his 70's so think he has lost interest. I was just recently quite ill and it's just a father son project my son is wanting to do. I am building a new house with my dream garage and it will be a road trip to go from NM to Minnesota to get it and bring back.

Information is appreciated, I will let you folks know how I end up.

You can't offend him if he puts a sale price on it.
