I've had my '76 Stingray since May of 2012 (early Father's Day gift) and I've brought the manuals and the books and have had a couple of things fixed and even fixed a couple of small things myself. I was watching a video of a '76 for sale and the guy highlighted the tilt/telescopic steering wheel. I really couldn't tell how he did it from the video so I Googled it and read an old Corvette thread. Little did I know that all I had to do was turn the bezel outside of the horn to work the telescopic function! I'm 6 ft tall and may never have to use it, but it's good to know I have it! Now I have to work on fixing the actual horn!!! I hate these Chicago winters. The warm weather is going to take forever this year!
And in case you're wondering....no I don't feel stupid! I'm just as excited as I was the first day I drove my dream car home. Just wanted to share since my car is still the cover till probably March/April.
It's awesome finding all the little stuff like that!!!!!
And...at 6 ft tall, now you push it all the way IN fot longer arms!!!!
I had my new truck over a year before I found the ash tray (I keep work keys in it now!!!)
I think of those discoveries as "Easter eggs". I had no idea about the pull-down switch for the headlight vacuum over-ride. The day I figured it out I was like, "Well, son of a b!%^$... How about that!"
Ha that's awesome. I remember the day I bout my vette when I was 17 I didn't know how to get it in reverse (pull up on T handle). It's amazing how much we just don't know
I discovered mine had telescopic while driving down the road. Noticed that tab moved a bit and when I pushed it I thought the whole wheel flew off as it sprung towards me. Scared the @#$# out of me!
Second discovery was the false bottom of the storage compartment which when removed revealed the secret compartment complete with original jack.
When I got my first 4 speed C3 (came without a manual) I sat in it forever trying to figure out how to get the key out of the ignition after I had parked it. Has to be in reverse of course we all know...but I had to throw on the parking brake and go inside the house to hit google up for the answer.
This one throws every shop it goes to, I explain it and they brush me off, and then inevitably I have to go show them what to do.
While a neat feature it is kinda worthless. You are 6' tall and can't use it, I am 5'6" and can't use it, so whom are the drivers who have the dinosaur arms that need it

I discovered my telescoping steering wheel just as I pulled into the start position for an autocross. It came all the toward me and I was in a panic about how I was going to drive all out with it that close to me. Finally I was able to push it in. I never did figure out how to lock it.
Gee, I'll have to look under the storage compartment to see if I have a jack.

And you just taught me about that one! Guess I will look for that one next. Thanks.
WOW! You guys really must learn how to read an owner's manual. You'll find out all kinds of good things. Back in the day before computers, all of us had to read hard copy to get our information.

Not every vintage car comes with an owner's manual and not everybody runs out and buys one before attempting to drive their recently purchased car.
Now, other than the handful of things mentioned here such as telescopic wheel, headlight over-ride and changing a spare tire...what other hidden complexities are there in a C3 that require an owner's manual for full enjoyment vs. any other mid 70s GM car?

I'm too busy spending my available money on parts to make my Vette better and drivable, I will probably get an owners manual one day just to have it but not to find out what I probably already know...

I guess that would be me. I'm 5' 11" and I have mine fully extended and wish it would extend a few inches more.

Wow, you must have short arms! I let my buddy who helps me do a lot of work on the car drive it, he's 6' and tried to extend the wheel but said it was too close for him too. My son who just got back from afghanistan and will be here this weekend with his new baby girl with drive it and he's 5'9", I'll bet he's not going to like it either. I think it's a neat idea but GM didn't pull it off right.
