Default extra wire in engine bay harness??

put my new engine harness on last night, (and btw, got to fire up the engine with the key ignition for the first time since i've been restoring this car, 4 years now)

but i have one extra, what appears to be ground wire, here are a couple of pics, i marked it with green tape, not great pics, but does someone know what this would go to? in the area of horn relay, and i already have ground wire to regulator. car is a 1968 427/390hp, PB, PS, 4speed. thanks, Rick

No help really as my car is completely different, but it has an eyelet that goes under a screw/nut somewhere. I noticed you m/c is still off the car, does it go on there somewhere. If you're sure it's in the right position on the car then it can only move around so much. What else does it come close to?

yes, i'm sure it's in the right position, it comes out of the harness at the same position that all of the other horn relay wires come from (and the ground to the regulator)

its fairly short, maybe 8" long with eyelet terminal...could only reach something in the immediate area...maybe to the horn relay mounting stud? or something on Power brake area? can't think of any other options. anyone have a 68' with similar harness? Rick

Rick, do you have a 68 AIM? It has the wiring hookup, for the voltage regulator and the horn relay. If it wasn't such a pain to post a diagram, I would do it. Lou.

Lou, yes i have the 68 AIM, and did find info pages on relay and regulator, but did not see this particular wire in schematic? funny thing is, my old original harness (which was in a box when i bought this "basket case") has the same wire also, so i know it must go somewhere! thanks, Rick

Not saying that mine is right but my voltage regulator was attached to to the fender well by a stud on the bottom forward corner. That ground wire was attached to that stud also, I assume to ground the regulator. The AIM shows two ground wires in the same area of the regulator and horn relay. page 12 d1

ok thanks, the reason i asked is that on your relay, the plug in connectors are in the same position as mine, but the wires that go to the front two terminals are not, do you have both larger red wires on same post? take a look at my pic again, can you get a detailed pic of the wires that are screwed on to the two posts? thanks, Rick

I'll take a look later today if needed but here's another pic. I took last night that might help.

thanks again Rick for the pic....on my 68' i hooked the two larger red wires to the left post, and the double wire (black and orange i believe) to the right post. btw, this is exactly how my 68' was hooked up originally when i got it, and is also the way my 1970 L46 unmolested car is hooked up....but then i got to thinking, i'm not sure it really matters, after all they are all wired to the same metal plate, which is basically just combining all of the wires together. make sense?? I guess it does make sense, I just rang those out and there is continuity between them.
