Those look sweet!
Yeah, there was some sanding and a little filing of minor curb rash on mine. But the effort does pay off.
Yeah it is a ton of work but the payoff is worth it. I still have to finish the left rear, two more compound steps, then paint the centers. I'm thinking of using the "black chrome" paint system for the centers...
I also have an 81 with a manual. We love it. Actually, we like taking road trips quite often. Upgrading the seats was a great improvement. I really have not had much at all to go wrong with the car. You have a nice looking 81. Keep it up and it will last a long time. Al

Sorry, just realized I stole OP's thread
don't do it - the stuff is crap (the paint stuff).

Heh, no worries. I literally asked for it (as in advice on how to polish the rims). Guess I know what I'll be doing this weekend.

I hope your back is in better shape than mine, I had to break it up and do one wheel a weekend (not that it actually took that long), and the last one put me on the couch for a few days - old paratroopers don't die, they just do a good PLF on the couch
If the wheels are just oxidized and not scratched, you can use brillo pads to take the oxidation out first. Don't be stingy with the pads. Make sure you don't run them out of soap or they can scratch the aluminum. Then I use Blue Magic polish. I have done aluminum wheels on my semis for years that way and it seems to be the best results with the least work. I did the wheels on my 81 that way after I bought it and they look new.
And I wasn't aware of this, but apparently as soon as you buy one of these things you're immediately a part of the Chevy v.s. Ford war as a coworker let me know (by calling my car a cute plastic wedge).
I've always been a Ford girl so I feel a little uneasy driving a Chevy and I don't even actually own a Ford anymore. I'm putting a Ford transmission in it so that makes me feel a little better. I'm trying to get over the whole Ford vs Chevy thing, its really pretty childish when you get right down to it. If you're sticking with one brand you're really missing out on some nice cars. Having said that out of the 50 or 60 cars I've had I miss my 77-79 Lincoln Mk V's the most, sometimes I think I'd rather have one of those back rather than the Corvette. Of course ideal would be to have both but I don't have the space for three cars anymore.
Congrats on the new addition. I like all C3's, but I love the '80-'82 styling. That's why I've purchased two of them.
Sounds like my quest for a Vette! yep knew you were in Fla. lived ther for 26 yrs! Welcome to the club.....an elite club at that! Mines an 82 so at LEAST ya won't go through the crossfire debate!?! LOL!!!!!!!
she sure is pretty.best of luck! p.s. you will also be snubbed by the mopar crowd.
Also, get ready to be challenged by half the ricers out there. They all seem to have a big inferiority complex and a need to drive very stupidly. They can be very annoying, but always good for a laugh.
Congrats, be safe, don't forget to wave.
