Default Split Window 74' Corvette on CL?!?

Yep, while looking for console pics in CL ads, I stumbled across this:

Pretty amazing paint and graphics. Full on, late 70's freak going on!

Been watching it, curious to see what it tops out at. I kind of like it, somebody put a lot of time and work into the car.

No engine or trans, but that leaves it wide open to drop something radical in this ex-drag race car, because the whole rear end is built to the hilt! Imagine cruising around in that green monster! That car would probably be visible from outer-space.

John 65,

Thanks for posting the ebay link. It contains additional pics not found in either his CL ad or in the photobucket link within the CL ad.

F22,

I too thought as you did, in bold, above. But then I read the full text of his answers, to questions, in the ebay listing, and saw this:

"It is a street car, NOT a drag car. To be a drag car, it would need many changes, first, being a full cage."

Yes, it's narrowed, with an upgraded rear suspension, but the cage WOULD be a big deal, right? Can anyone put a ballpark figure on the costs for parts and labor for installing an NHRA-approved cage? (I believe the requirements vary, depending upon how quick the car is, right?)
-------------------------------------------------------------------

I actually did some reading, last night, about driving fully-tubbed cars on the road, and the reports weren't good. Bad in rain, bad over bumps, no fun with a flat tire, etc....

And I STILL love the car!

Any other opinions on driving a fully-tubbed car on the street?
-------------------------------------------------------------------

Another Question for the assembled Brain Trust:
Could a '63 Split Window's back window be grafted on to the '78-'82 C3's, with results as good as "Wild Child"? I love the 1977 and older C3's' "flying buttresses" rear window treatment, and I LOVE the '63's split window even more. But I don't care for the '78-'82's large back window so much (and no offense to owners of these cars whatsoever! To each his/her own).

Does anyone make an aftermarket '63 split window's WINDOW and fiberglas surround/assembly, to do such a graft, without having to find a wrecked '63 with a good back end?
-------------------------------------------------------------------

As others have noted, a LOT of time and money have been poured into this car. I can do bodywork, and have done a minute amount of glaswork with woven roving, but I don't feel up to such a graft-job myself.

I would love to hear from any bodymen out there, as to what it would cost to replicate:

1. The graft of the 63' split window assembly.

2. The lengthening and "pointing" of the rear deck, including taillight treatment.

3. The crazy paint job.

I'm just curious as to what we're looking at here, in terms of cubic dollars, if someone paid for this to be done. I LOVE this thing! LOL

Thanks to all.

WOW! I'm surprised of all the positive reaction to this one. Having been a part of that era I'm not really sorry that it came and went.
Whether it's the color, the graphics, or the mods (or maybe the total combination) I'm not feeling this one.

Me neither. I keep thinking Speed Racer needs to be somewhere nearby.

It's a nostalgia thing. A lot of drag race cars were painted this way, back then. That was a perfectly legit style, even on heavily modified street cars. After that, the new fad was interweaving candy panels all over the car or maybe just the sides and hood. It varied. Take a look at the 70's car mags, like Car Craft and of course, Hot Rod magazine. And as noted, this was an ex-drag race car.

Did anyone see how it did on ebay?

I SWEAR I had it in m "Watch List," but it's GONE.

And even when things are not in one's "Watch List," IME, the auction stays "up" for a few days, if not longer, with an "Ended" banner across it at 45 degrees.

So what gives? Which one of you bought it and why did you have the seller take down the auction prematurely?

I believe there is a guy on Craigslist in Indiana that has some rear split window sections he sells.
