Default Bumper shrinking

I bought a used front and rear bumper and the do not fit at all on the sides, they are a 3/4 inch inward to far. I've never ran onto this problem. Do they shrink over time?

A little more info might be helpful. What year are you working on, are you dealing with urethane or fiberglass bumpers, has the car ever been hit, etc......

This is why I always tell people who are asking about bumpers, to buy the fiberglass ones. If they don't fit, you can sand or fill the bumper. When urethane ones don't fit (which happens often), your only choice is to do body work on the car.

Yes, the urethane bumpers shrink, pucker, sag and split with age. They eventually fall apart as they continue to weather. A used fiberglass bumper can be made to fit really closely... a used factory bumper which is too small is useless.

you can pull the bumper back into shape, but it takes heat, small hands (to get the nuts on the back), and a Navy-level cuss word dictionary.
