I found the warranty booklet and protecto plate for my dad's 69 Corvette that he bought new in May 1969 from Reedman Chev in Langhorne, Pa. and would like to find its' whereabouts. He traded it back to them sometime in 1972-3. What I remeber it was gold with a saddle interior, 427/390, 4 speed car. I'm interested in buying it.

Hi Mark! I assume you meant serial # 71490? If so, please meet Mr. Gary John in Falls River, MA. It appears it is also for sale!
I'll have to double check the vin on the protect-o-plate. May be I transposed two numbers. This would be a true find for me. Definetly would look nice next to my 69 435 Corvette and GN. Christmas may come early for me!!!

That picture was taken at a New England Chapter NCRS meet at Masse Chevrolet in Rhode Island last year. My friend's red 64 coupe is in the picture. My 61 is just out of the picture to the right. Small world.
I can tell you that I looked at that car and spoke with the owner. It is very nice
Not that I'm new to Corvettes- have my 435 car since 77, but how would I determine the options based on vin? The pictures of my dad's car- black and white Poloroids- the car has ralley wheels, blackwall tires, and no chrome louver trim. Either way, this would be a win for me.

Unfortunately, there is nothing in the VIN that will tell you what the options are on this car. You'd need either the order copy, tank sticker, or window sticker to tell you those details.
You did say you had the protect-o-plate that will give engine option, transmission option, and rear differential gear ratio.

I have what I call the protect-o-plate. It is a metal card embossed with the vin and my dads name and address. It is stuck to the warranty booklet. I don't remember seeing any other info on it, but will look at it when I get home.

That's the one. Should look like this:
If you post a picture of it here, I or many others can help you decipher it to give you your engine option, transmission option, rear end option and their respective assembly dates. If you're not comfortable posting a picture, just list all the codes on the protect-o-plate.
That is what it looks like except mine has some sort of clear tape(?) over the embossings. Give me about an hour or so to get home and look at it. I really do appreciate all the help you all are giving m.
Check again. You need one more digit on 74910x. All 69s have the 7. The consecutive unit number will be the five digits after the 7, but there were only 38762 of them so the 49 won't work.
May was a strike month. If your Dad bought the car in May, it was assembled in March or April before the strike began.

According to the hand written writing on the warranty booklet, it was May 26, 1969 when he bought it. I was there when he bought it, but only 13 then. Really, really, really should have tried to buy it from him whn he wanted to trade it, but I probably would have hacked it all up "modifying" it. But Corvettes of that vintage back then were just another car.
looks like a nice car. for sale for 40K.. but who knows how old that registry entry is.
if you do confirm that vin# and that is the car.. then I expect that owner will just as much want to buy your doc from you as you want to buy the car from him.
LMPete, it appears that that is my dads' car! Vin on th p-o-p is S714910. To the left of the vin and vertical is R2 chev bowtie. Next line isT0120lLM and PA0102W. Third line is P9A22. Then there is his name and address. My p-o-p does not have a date under the line with the city/state.
I sent an email to the owner and we'll see what happens.

LM is 427/390HP w/ a 4-speed, 0120 is assembled 01/20/1969 at the (T) Tonawanda NY plant.
Check that 2nd line for me again, is it "FA0102W?" FA is 3.70:1 heavy duty positraction for a 427. 0102 is assembled 01/02/1969 at the (W) Warren plant.
P is Muncie 4-speed, 9 for 1969, A22 is assembled 01/22/1969
Congrats on finding your dad's car, hopefully you are able to purchase it and complete the dream so many others are trying to do. Let us know how it goes.

14910 would line up with an early February assembly.

Yes, it is FA0102W. The p-o-p is still attached to the warranty booklet so I'm reding the backside of the letters. DOH!!!! hold it to a mirror and read it normally. Still FA0102W.
I got a reply from the owner. He still has it and is still for sale. He's showing at a NCRS event in May. Looks like I'm taking a road trip to MA.
