1980 L-48. From the driver's fender wiring harness to alternator, idle solenoid, etc, I have a wire that has been cut leaving a few inches left. It is black with a green stripe. The electric choke has nothing going to it. Am I correct in thinking this black/green stripe wire is for the choke? If so, why would someone delete this?
I would check the wire for voltage, if it is the choke wire
1st with key off - no voltage
2nd with key on - no voltage
3rd with engine running - power
If you have these then I would say it is the electric chime wire.
You DO NOT want power to the electric choke unless the motor is running, you don't want the choke to open until then.
Mt choke wire comes off the top of the alternator, which only puts out voltage when the motor runs.
No power in any mode from black/green stripe wire. Don't know what it's for? Idle solenoid wire is light blue. AIM is vague but shows what appears to be two separate wires for idle solenoid and choke. Besides the black/ green stripe wire there are no other wires from the harness. Could I just jump off the idle solenoid wire over to the choke?

As long as it's heavy enough to carry the load and is on when you need it what's the worst that could happen? Besides fiery ***** of flame, death and destruction, and the appocalipse.
the electric choke heater on my edelbrock carb draws close to 1 amp.if that helps anyone.i put an ammeter in series with it for the test.i would assume as it heats the resistance will climb and the amperage will drop.
