Do I leave the bottom of the top surround under the wheelwell "au natural" or should it be coated with something to help prevent cracks from flying stones or whatever?? Thanks.
The factory shot a little undercoating/sound deadener under there but it could have been spotty at best on the surround panel. I shot mine with 3M automotive undercoating from the rattle can as insurance against the possibility of unwanted star cracks in the paint.

The top surround is the panel on top of the fenders.
What's being talked about is the underside of this panel in the wheel well area that is subject to stone damage.

Isn't that properly called the hood surround? That's what I've always heard it called, and it does surround the hood, not the top, or roof.
