They both run off the same cable so it has to be a broken odometer. I'm not familiar with the '72's so I can't comment on the trip meter. Look at it this way, if the odometer is broken then no matter how much you drive it, you won't be putting miles on it. LOL.

If the odometer isn't working you need to remove it and have it rebuilt, nothing you can do externally. Had you recently used the tripometer I would tell you to ensure it is fully seated in the down position, but you haven’t used your tripometer. I only mention the tripometer because it happened to me, once I reseated it by pulling down the odometer began to function again.

Removing the driver’s side dash isn't very fun; you might want to enlist the help of friend to hold the dash as you disconnect cables and bulbs.

Owner's manual shows where it is supposed to be. AIM shows how it installs. Yours could still be up under the dash. Have you looked?

Thank you very much! Where does the push button end go? On the instrument cluster? Under it? I have a hole on the right lower side of my steering column?

Assembly Instruction Manual. AIMs show how the cars were assembled at the factory. Very handy things to have around. Order one for your model year.

Owner's manual probably shows the location of the reset and will explain how it works.

If you don't have an owner's manual order a reprint when you order the AIM.

Under the driver's side dash, near the Headlight Vacuum Door Open Switch. Is your tripometer turning?

It's not a reset button. It's a cable. The end with the rubber **** protrudes down under the dash next to the steering column. You push it up and turn it to reset the Trip Odometer and pull it down when you're done.
