I have a luggage rack on a 69 that needs to be replaced and can not find one that fits. I have tried 3 different racks and some of the mounting hole alignment is off up to 1 1/4". Any suggestion other than filliing the holes and starting over?
No, the existing rack could be replated but it has alignment issues also. It may have been a replacment or not mounted correctly in the first place.
Thanks
What your experiencing is typical of the racks, and part of the reason that I don't like them. If the 3 you bought are repros and didn't fit, don't bother buying any more of them. The position of the holes in the repros, are all pretty much the same.
They were making a rack with out any holes, so you position them where you wanted, but it has been discontinued.
Is your existing rack too far gone to have replated?
Have you checked out cost to rechrome stuff lately?
At least here in the south it's gotten crazy and its cheaper to usually buy new parts unless you want to keep original
I measured the mounting holes on my 68 rack this weekend. They measure 38 1/2" width (left/right) and 14 1/2" length (fwd/aft). Right now I don't know where the stand-offs are but if you're interested I'll dig around and try to find them.
