I have been trying to buy a 69 427 car for 15 years. First time I saw in in the garage was 1997-98 now if you drove by with the garage door up you wouldn't even see it. It's buried. Anyhow it's a 69 roadster. Monaco red ( or Orange) 4 speed 427 390 hp ? has cast intake.50k miles BLK top and int. Car is in excellent original cond. Pretty nice. Carb and radio replaced but owner has them in a box. Only bad is been sitting 20 years or so. Car is pretty sharp.
Owner finally has decide to sell but wants barret jackson money. He told me to come buy with some cash and wheel n deal.
What do we think on this ,car will need tires brakes calipers maybe tank cleaned. Do all the headlights wipers usually work after sitting for years ?
sorry no pics yet
thanks in advance

More details and of course pictures would simplify trying to put a value on this car. Keep in mind if you plan to make it road worthy there is years of maintenance to catch up on. Quite possibly every piece of rubber on the car could be dry rotted also. What does he consider Barret Jackson money to be?
I'm a big believer in the old adage, "I can't buy and sell the car."
Bring short money in 100 bills and try to buy as low as you can.
PS, check for rust closely, check the engine numbers yourself, and remember a car sitting for 20 years might require a huge restoration bill, even if it looks pretty good. Unless you are convinced it will remain a survivor type car.
I may be in a similar situation (I have not actually made it to see the car yet due to weather). But I hope we can share stories of buying these hidden gems.
Is it original paint? Besides the carb and radio what else may have been done? Does the guy have complete history on it? To me this is a *huge* plus as it will limit the surprises (assuming he's honest with you and remembers). I would think this could be a very special car. Get to know the guy. This will help move the deal and may be valuable as you make it roadworthy.
What is the garage like? Attached to the house? Moisture will get to it but could be really bad depending...
Pass on this one, or put it on the very back burner. Based on what you've posted, the owner does not actually want to sell the car, but will be more than happy to accept any six figure offer.
Well that makes me feel like I may have a shot at the one I'm chasing. I was told 40k and it's running and shiny. I thought my seller was out of touch!! This guy is dreaming.
I say keep after him. Show him some comparables. He started the volley so "game on".

If he told me that he wanted BJ type money for a car that has been sitting for 20 years I would tell him to tow it there and wish him luck. Find a nice running example with an owner who is dealing with reality.
