Hi all. I have a 78 L48,( newbie) and both my wife and I want to raise the seat back angle up, so I can see the front end a little better. I pulled out the old adjustable bolts, and found some longer ones at Home Depot. For the life of me, I can't get the new,or old bolts restarted. Is there some trick I'm missing? Do I have to pull out the seats to fix this? I can't believe something so simple has me stumped. Please help out this Corvette for Dummies guy. Thank you, Mike
First of all, make sure the threads are correct. I'm trying to remember. 5/16" national coarse?
Maybe if you dress the tips of the bolt threads with a grinder, to make the end a bit cone shaped, the bolts will find their home again.
If you try to raise the seatback a good bit, try to fit a solid stack of washers under the bolt head. The adjusting bolts are rather small. I've bent mine.
