Catalytic converter
How much h/p can I gain by removing the catalytic converter from my 1980

Not sure how accurate the data is, but obviously removing the cat helps. Installing headers makes it even better.

Not much if making no other changes. Do you have to pass emissions testing in your state?

No I don't. Have vehicle tagged as classic so I get around the whole emissions crap.

I'm installing a high flow cat and more free flowing exhaust on my 80 in the next couple weeks. I'll let you know how much of a different it makes. Right now it is pretty much bone stock

Mine is bone stock also. L48 , 4 speed. Like to see a little better performance with a better exhaust note. I know headers and true duels all the way back is the way to go but the car had been restored to all original condition before I bought it and I'd like to keep it as original as possible.

take the cat off open it up with a long rod .put it back on cost nothing.the old cats were verry restricted.
