I can't believe it but I managed to get one side of the parking brake pads on my '69 on without tearing the hub apart. Although I know I should I remember reading somewhere a press is needed for the bearings or something like that.
Took a few hours of tiny pliers and fishing them through the little holes in the hub but it worked...
Seems like a VERY terrible parking brake setup. I'm not sure how modern vehicles parking brakes work but are there any upgrades to the vette one?
I doubt it. If you think about it they should never need replaced. They are not used to stop the car. They are meant to keep the car from rolling on its own. There isn't any wear on them at all.

Yeah.
Just seems like the 1" of leverage that the linkage has isn't very much to spread out both pads. I hope I"m surprised when I get the thing working but right now it worries me it'll be a weak brake even when adjusted properly.
Plus the terrible design on how it's all held together is another issue on itself.

then I'll have to stop using my e-brake to initiate drifts on my way to work in the morning...
You only need the press if you're pulling or putting on new bearings. You can pull the hub out to do the brakes (although, from what I understand it's not always necessary).
Well I was all excited to get it hooked up today and turns out I don't have the little cable equalizer...
The old setup had a snapped cable so it must have been lost...Or I've lost it somewhere in my vast mess of parts in my basement.
BUT I did realize that the "front" parking brake I thought I heard about is the AIM manual talking about the front cable...the one that goes into the handle. So no such thing as a front parking brake...just a front cable/system.
I'll rebuild the hubs sometime this summer. and get them all cleaned up and sand blasted.
And since I couldn't work on the parking brake today like I wanted to I finished mounting the C3 rails to my C5 seats(not very easy)
Just waiting on the Sharkbar(ordered almost 2 months ago ) and my TeamTech harnesses should be here in a week.
Well I got the cable equalizer and got the front cable installed.
I'm about 5-7 inches short to being able to connect the rear and front cables together.
I'm almost positive the brackets that bolt to the frame are in the right spot.
1. is the lever on right? manual showed the J hook facing down but almost positive it wouldn't work right facing down.
2. Is the spring in the right spot? Should it be completely between the lever and the plastic guide insert or should some of it be in the plastic insert?
Those look OK to me. What about the rest of the cable? Can you post pics of the routing, where it's hooked up to the equalizer and the front cable?
I'll take some tomorrow.
Front cable has to be correct. I think the issue is where the rear cable mounts to the frame on both sides.
There's 3 bolt holes in the frame and I was positive I had the right two for the bracket and the inner one for a brake line clip but in order to get more slack I have to move the bracket inward on one if not both sides.
Almost positive the front cable is in correct. Connect to lever, go through hole, around pulley.
Here is the only place that I can make up slack unless I have the wrong cables.
Pic 1. Is where I had them both but didn't have enough cable to reach the front cable. The outside 2 holes of the 3.
Pic 2. In order to get slack I have to mount the brackets to the inside. Doing just this side let the cables touch but barely. If I move the other maybe they'll work....just don't think this is the right mounting location
Well. I moved the one side you see in the picture in to the inner bolt holes. But when I tired to do the same to the other side the battery ground gets in the way so pretty positive that's not the correct way.
Maybe I just wasn't pulling hard enough on the cable to get it attached when they're both in the outer 2 bolt hole locations. Right now I have one in the outer 2, and one in the inner 2 and it seems perfect.
I can try moving back out to the outer two and pulling super hard but just not sure.
I looked at the pics I have from my '74 and the brackets are bolted on using the outer holes so the way you originally had it sounds correct. The pictures you posted make it look like the bracket on your trailing arm might be on the top of the arm. My bracket on the trailing arm has not been relocated but my cables go under the trailing arm. Your pictures don't really show the routing but it looks like your cable might go over your trailing arm. If that makes the distance longer it might be the problem. The other thing I thought of is very simple but you don't have a pic that shows it. Is the parking brake lever down?
