After doing some engine work on my 350 that very last thing i have to do is put the ignition noise shields on my distributor and spark wires. But I can't get the dang things to go back on for some reason. I've got no problems leaving them off, but was wondering if anyone had reasons for me to keep trying to put them on, other than the radio.
Mine was also a pain to say the least to get back on, my buddy says he can take his off and put back on blindfolded. I learned to get it back on at about a 45 degree angle lining it up with the dipstick tube. The only problem with leaving it off is when getting judged at the car shows in the stock class.
If you get no interference in the stereo without them, no reason to reinstall them unless you want to keep the stock appearance. On my 68, I get no interference without them in the FM band; I get interference in the AM band.
I don't listen to much AM, i'm using the original stock radio and speakers, its a little rough anyway not much ignition noise to be heard. My exhaust drowns out most music, two brand new flowmaster 2 1/2" mufflers that sound like there's nothing inside them, freaking loud. Told shop i wanted stock sound or quieter...might have to do some changing.
I was a little concerned about the ignition noise affecting other parts of my electrical system is about all. With no electronics in the car (other than radio) there shouldn't be any problems i would think.
