So I spent a good amount of time out on the 68 this past week. The grime in transmission tunnel was cleaned up and began sanding high spots on the firewall down in an attempt to give the firewall an overall smoother and better appearance. Fun times!
Thanks Greendot. I plan on cleaning up and smoothing out the transition between the firewall and tunnel. Cleaning that area up cleared up a family story I had heard from mom. She heard that dad at one point bought a burn job Vette out of Detroit, but didn't know what one it was or if he still had it. Looking at the trans tunnel, looks like there was an engine fire at one point. That could possibly explain why the car was repainted and the interior swapped out to a slightly newer style so early in its life.
I love it when you can uncover mysteries like that Chuck. Good job.

Took me a second to figure out that that item was even in one of the pictures and thought you might have been psychic. That is a nylon abrasive cup brush. I think I may have picked it up at Harbor Freight, but should be readily available at most hardware stores. In fact, mine bit the dust under the 68 co I need to go buy another. It is very good and scraping off dirt, debris and light rust. It was not very good and scraping off the grease and gunk from the trans tunnel area. I owe that to wiping those areas down with brake cleaner. I was also told by someone else that scrubbing bubbles works very well for that job as well.
Hey Chuck, picked up one of the Roloc type blue wheels. I remember cleaning up the firewall. I could not believe how long it took me to get it the way I wanted before I painted it. Your doing a great job on the not so much fun stuff. Keep it up.

Nice attention to detail and lots of pics.
Mine will be back at the beginning end of this thread soon as my body comes off this week.
Keep up the pics...very inspiring. And awesome work by David Howard.
So the wife and I hit up the Detroit Autorama this past Saturday. We spent about 4 and a half hours wandering Cobo Hall staring at awesome rides. Saw quite a few C3s, a bunch of C2s and a couple C1s. I stood right next to Jimmie Johnson's restomod C3 which was pretty cool to see in person. We ran into a couple famous car guys and we were about 4 feet from the stage during Count's 77 performance.
Horny Mike from Count's Kustoms
Dave Kindig from Kindigit Designs and Velocity Channel's Bitchin Rides. I nearly ran right into him before I realized who it was. This was an awesome experience. I was wearing my Detroit Vintage Wheels shirt and he pointed out how cool their work was.
Picked up some cool art for the man cave. He does custom work too, so I may have one featuring the Toy done eventually when it is done.
And speaking of Detroit Vintage Wheels, I had hoped to meet up with the owner while I was down there but our schedules didn't quite line up. He did mention that he is looking at getting a 4 car spot at next years Detroit Autorama and he want's the Toy to occupy one of the spots. That means I have about 360 days to get it into presentable shape. That might be a tall order, I'm gonna have to kick it into gear. Looks like Autorama might be it's debut show...
I also started to apply bedliner to the underside. The spray cans are going to be far messier than I would like and wont cover as much as I would like so I will be looking into gallon size cans that can be rolled on. Work is finally presuming again.
I'll have to plan to attend the show next year and see the Toy in person when completed Chuck. How cool is that. Congratulations and keep the momentum going buddy.
Best regards,
David

I know he's looking for a few other cars running DVW wheels for the booth. I know the 72 racer would go over well.
When you get it on display at Cobo Hall....how cool would it be to have the little toy displayed with the real one? I`d LOVE to have a picture of that!
I was born in Ann Arbor, grew up around there.... haven`t been to Cobo Hall in YEARS!

I'd better get busy then. LOL. I will be back on the 72 racer next week and moving it forward with new fuel lines and roll bar installation. Time to get it in gear. (Pun intended).
I picked up a 69 rolling chassis that I have pushed aside for now so as not to distract me. A project for another time. LOL.
