I am trying to replace the steering wheel and return the car to a more period correct look. The current steering wheel is one of the aftermarket steering wheels and I believe they changed the hub with an aftermarket adapter. So now the problem I am having is the period correct steering wheel will not fit on the steering wheel hub and I can't find one for a standard steering column. Most of them are all for the tilt steering versions. Anyone know where I could find thhttps://www.corvetteforum.com/forums/images/editor/separator.gife steering hub? I have checked the normal corvette parts sites and again not what I need. Most of them are for 1975 models.
Anyone had the same issue and can offer some guidance?
The standard 79 column used the four spoke Vega wheel left over from 76 with no separate hub. AIM 9B Sheet 1 in your scan. My guess is a previous owner did not like the Vega wheel and replaced it.
Yeah I was confused with the scan saying canceled. Hopefully I can find the 76 hub or worst case upgrade to a tilt steering column. Thanks for the help.
I did a little digging and corvette America makes a steering column conversion kit for the 1976 standard steering column. I plan to place an order in April and see if it works. Thanks again for the background history on the steering columns. That info really helped out.
Once I get the parts I will post some pics so future people reading this will not have to waste as much time researching.
