Default Got Steeriods? Read this....

I installed Steeriods a few years ago and find the car can be a little twitchy on the highway (not horrible - but a little.) After doing some reading I stumbled on an article at Speeddirect that says our origional pumps put out too much pressure for a rack and pinion set up and we should install a power steering pump pressure reducing mod kit. They sell one for about $20. Anyway what I've learned is our old pumps are producing 1200 psi, while the racks require 850 psi. I found a Youtube video describing how to do it. Search " Project Corvette (Power Steering Pump Mod) " Not sure if I'm allowed to link a YouTube video thats not mine - sorry. He explains how to do it and that we require the Borgeson# 899001 kit.
I've ordered mine yesterday and I'll let you guys know how it reacts once its in.

I don't know how I missed this for all these years. I did a search in 'C3 general' and don't see anyone discussing this kit anywhere. Did we all know about this needed mod and I just missed it somehow? Anybody else done this mod?

I literately installed this on Sat. I have not noticed any "twichy-ness" however I will be on the look out. Thanks for the heads up!

This has been out there for a good while,

The guys that did a DIY rack and pinion have delt with this more than with the kits due to the manufacture usually installs the correct flow orifice.

Its really a flow issue and not a pressure issue. The system will operate at the required pressure up to the maximum set pressure but the flow is critical to the feel of the steering.

The older GM pumps are in the 3 to 3.4 gpm area while the rack works better in the 2.4 gpm area.

I did a DIY rack and had to change the flow fitting on my pump to get the feel the way I wanted it.
