anybody have a thoughts as to how i should transport a 1970 corvette body on its frame [not bolted down]no eng, trans, rad core support, gas tank,it does have suspension and rolls on its tires,,it needs to go 500 miles inside an inclosed car trailer,i dont want to crack the front nose off to car with-out support
1.should i bolt down the body to the frame?
2.support the front nose by putting the rad core support back in?
3.strap it together?
We've been moving my 69 vert (just the body) around on a 4-caster frame we welded up to fit the body mounts. To support the nose we have a 2 inch winch strap running up and over the windshield frame. If you've a coupe that's not an option, and I would def bolt the body to the frame. If you have enough room in the hauler to get in front of the car you could block the nose up for the trip.
Unless those 500 miles are all on rocky dirt roads, I can't imagine that several good old fashioned shipping blankets wouldn't protect your investment, especially inside an enclosed trailer. Great choice for transport, BTW.
Secure all other loose equipment that may ride with the car and pack the shipping blankets at all the stress/flex points. Rent 2 dozen blankets if one isn't enough. Cheaper and faster than bolting a semi-finished body together, don't you think?
