I've got an 81 that I'm helping a friend restore. The T tops are in bad shape; both cracked, in several places (must have been dropped ... maybe more than once??
Anyway, I'm new to T tops.
Are they interchangable across all years or just some years?
What would a pair likely cost, and-
-where to find some, assuming someone has a pair that will fit an 81?
I'm open to either glass OR painted tops (color does not matter as the car is to be repainted anyway).
I believe the glass tops were from 78-82. Fiberglass ones were 68-77.
My '72 came with a set of pristine mirrored tops out of a '78 (traded them for a bunch of parts I needed). I found a few fiberglass sets off Ebay & Craigslist. I bought 2 pairs of 'oval' Velcro clipped ones so I'd be sure to have enough spare parts.
However, the mounting hardware will be different for these 2 types of tops but can be modified to fit.

Why not have your friend join the forum and post his/her own questions?

All 68-77 tops swap between the 68-77 model years; all 78-82 tops swap between the 78-82 model years. The later tops can be added to the older cars if you swap out the halo panel hardware to the 78-82 type.
Fiberglass tops painted body color were standard with all coupes throughout C3 production. Glass tops, when they became available, were always optioinal at extra cost. For PCs and CEs, the glass tops were included in the options package for those models.
