I have been replacing the weatherstrip on my '81 and have run into a problem. The T-top weatherstrip was in good shape so I didn't replace that. I see that the PO has glued an additional strip to the outside of the T-top weatherstrip where it meets the top of the window. I'm having a problem adjusting my door glass and I think this is the reason why. After looking in some vendor's parts books it seems that the earlier year models used the additional strip. The later models did not.

Can someone take a picture of what this weatherstrip area looks like? That is where the upper length of the window meets the T-top weatherstrip. What does that contact area look like?

No 68-82 T-Top, had an "additional" piece of weatherstrip, over the door glass.

On 68-69E tops, the weatherstrip was molded in 2 pieces, with the piece over the door glass, molded separate from the other 3 sides of the rubber. On 69L-77 tops, the weatherstrip is molded in one piece, and snaps into a retainer strip, over the door glass. The rubber on 78-82 tops, is one piece also, but has metal molded into the rubber, in the area over the door glass, eliminating the need for the retainer. There was no other weatherstrip, installed on t-tops.

Below are a couple pictures of the weatherstrip, on my 81 glass tops. This is the original, factory installed, GM rubber. If you have painted tops, they still use the same weatherstrip. Painted tops won't have the plastic trim around the latch handle, and the trim around the edge of the top is different, but the same weatherstrip is used and it's installed the same way.

Thanks gbvette62. Those pictures solve the mystery. The PO has glued another strip of rubber to the T-top weatherstrip .

DO you happen to have a pic of the 68-69E out weather strip? I'm thinking that might work on my one piece Astrotop to replace the horrible outside strip they come with
