Default headliner removal

thanks in advance for any and all help.
just bought an aux hardtop for my 74 and will be doing a color change to the headliner I think. question is other than going slow while working with a 40 year old headliner is there anything to be on the look out for as hidden screws etc. my aim has been copied so many times that I am not able to see anything. I think paul74 had a simular post but can't find it.
again thanks
Buddy

The top trim uses a combination of trim screws and velcro fasteners. Check for dates as you remove the panels.

The headliner is held onto the hardtop by the plastic Velcro-like fasteners. Each of the 'sails' is held on to the main part of the headliner by a post with a speednut.

Just take it slow and it should come out pretty easy, be careful around the sails so as to not rip the post thru the sail part.

my t-tops also have two spring clips that engage the fiber backing. pry the liner free of the 'velcro' snaps and then slide the liner to one side so that the clip is free of it's cut-out and then the other way to loosen the other side.

There are actually two of those posts on each sail.

The key is to be very careful. The velcro-like fasteners do release fairly easily but put equal had pressure on each side of each one so as not to bend the headliner backing. It is much like cardboard and can rip if you are not careful.

This is where I started.

Location of fasteners.

Change of color (Krylon Fusion Black Paint).

Black vinyl added.
