Default Tilt column install question

Hi, I replace my standard steering column with a tilt teli column. In the picture you can see that the coupling thingy only went in less than half way in, I am guessing a little less than 1/2 in. Is that enough? Is it safe to drive? Can I adjust the steering box to get in in futher or is it ok? TIA

I think your steering shaft may be compressed a little into the column. I don't know how much success you'll have trying to pull it back out without removing the column. As long as the bolt going through the rag joint (the coupling thingy) is behind the lip of the flat on the steering shaft, I think you will be OK.

I would pull it back out, and pull the shaft back out.

I had the same problem, I bolted the column to my work bench, and used a comealong to extend the shaft.

We called that flat the "whistle notch" that was machined into the splines on the lower steering column shaft. As long as the 7807271 pinch bolt passes through that notch and the pinch bolt is torqued to the specified 30 ft-lbs the connection will be perfectly safe.
