I want to put a good set of shock on my 74, don't really want to pay the price for Bilsteins. I read on hear that KYB Shocks are very good, but which ones should I buy? I found a place that carries twin tube excel-G and mono tube gas-adjust KYBs, which are better? Which should I buy?
The Excel-G shocks are going to be a little softer than the Gas-A-Just shocks. The Gas-A-Just are self-adjusting valved shocks, similar to the SensaTrac. Either way they are a good shock, it just depends on how you are planning to drive the car. Let me know if you have any questions.
I have a 77 with a fiberglass rear spring. I was very unhappy with the monotube shocks on the rear. Their valving does not suit the spring and the rear was not well controlled over bumps and undulations. I now have the KYB GR2 with special valving for fiberglass springs. MUCH better. These are available from VB&P (and maybe others)
Unless its primarily for bragging rights or bench racing you cannot buy any better shock than the ones available from Monroes...they make them for all makes and there damn good ones too, with a unbeatable warranty.....
