In the front a 17x8 with a 4" backspace and a 245/45-17 tire works fine. The rear is the issue. In an ideal world a 17x9 with a 5" backspace and a 275/40-17 tire would be a good compliment for the front as both those tires are the same overall height. The only problem is a 5" backspace may not clear on the inside (the parking brake cable/trailing arm). With a 18" wheel a 5" backspace on a 9" wide wheel never seems to cause a problem because the wheel hoop being larger offers more suspension clearence on the inside. There would be a lot less drama if you were able to test fit something close. If you do a search using "17s" there is hours of reading on this. The problem is these cars (as well as other 30+ year old cars) all seem to be a little different so when you get into max sizes what works on one may not work on another.
