Default Rear window latch for '69s - not all the same!

Learned something new today...
If you have a early 69 ( My build date 1 FEB 69) the rear window latches are from a '68. I knew about the vacuum canister, didn't think about the latch being different. Be forewarned. I found one on E-bay for $150.00, and will keep looking. If someone has suggestions on where to get one, my ears are open.

I found out the same thing with mine. Once the weather clears I'll spend a few more minutes finding out how I can make them work.

Just wish I knew how the PO glued the window in so I can get it out.

I own a 68 and I removed the pins and swapped the new guts into the original 68 latch body. I like the extra tab with the two screw holes on the 68 body. To me it has to be more sturdy than only two screws holding the 69-72 latch. Lou.

I would imagine that the 1st design window latch is a little tough to find nowadays. The 2nd design window latch is quite sturdy with two heavy screw head bolts with star washers, they grip tight. The problems that occur with the latches is usually the rubber pads deteriorate. I don't think any vendor is making those yet. I purchased 2nd design NOS pieces just to have those unique pieces, as they have a built in nipple that secures them to the latch assembly pad.

Thanks to all for the feedback. If I use the part I purchased, I will have to modify one of the mounting holes to make it fit the narrower distance between the mounting points on the frame. I don't think I will swap the guts out, but good suggestion.

It's decision time, I'll either return this one, modify it to make it fit or look for a 1st gen design somewhere. Maybe I can make a deal and get two 1st gens, and put one in the parts bin for when the other one fails. They're only 44 years old after all.

Thanks again.

The original 68 design handles snap off. That is why they came out with the sturdier second design. Lou.
