I have a 1979 C3 and have purchased all of the parts ie, brackets, screws, facia, and speakers to fit the rear speakers as per OEM. However, I am having real trouble getting everything to fit. I have the drawings but still can't get the speakers to fit into the bracket when the bracket is in situ. Has anyone done the installation and got any tips?
Yeah that is what I thought but can't seem to get the cover and speakers to fit into the bracket. I installed the bracket, then installed the speakers to the grills and then tried to fit them. Even tried shallower speakers..... I might have to take it to an audio installation place...
I think Brett followed your assembly order Mike. Just wondering here, is there a left and right bracket that got mixed up perhaps, or does it matter if the speaker is rotated 180 degrees?
Ok, I have the grills and all associated hardware. Mounting the bracket is no problem BUT I have kenwood speakers in the set. These don't seem to fit the hole. They are hitting the steel of the rear pull back cover. The grills themselves don't seem to go in all the way.
Aftermarket speakers are too big. I had the same problem in my 80. I purchased a used pair of grilles and cut those to mount my aftermarket speakers on the front side. Grilles and speakers then installed in the stock brackets without any fit problems.

I was thinking something along these lines with a sheet of plywood.
Well so far for that idea. The speaker goes beyond the grill towards the middle if I want it to stay lower than the curtain which can be pulled over the cargo area.
