Hi all,

I REALLY appreciate all the responses and insight. I'm also really getting excited that this may be the real thing. Easy Mike, the engine does have the CTV suffix which is what grabbed my attention to begin with. Given every other code on the block also seems to match, I believe it is authentic.

I did join NCRS today and submitted a request to see if I can identify the original dealer. If nothing else, will give me a state to look at title history and the original owner (assuming they are still upright).

Mike

Is the engine assembly date correct for your car? Is the VIN derivitive correct? These have to jive before you have the "real thing."

Hi Easy Mike,

Here's everything I have found regarding the engine block. I believe I am using the correct terminology here based upon an article in corvetteblogger:

block casting code = 3970010
block casting date = J239 which I believe means the block was manufactured October 23, 1969

Of the two engine stamps, one is the matching derivative of my vin while the second stamp is V0II0CTV which I believe equates to an engine assembly date of January 10, 1970.

Based on my VIN, the car was assembled around March 1 or 2, 1970.

JR9170, I will take some pics over the weekend and post here.

Mike

The numbers are slightly unusual due to the date spread but being that it's a '70 it might still work. Next step is to post clear close up pics of the stamp pad. Restamps of high HP engines are very common.

Will post some pics after this weekend, along with digging into some of the other things to look at/for. Did peek under the car last night and it has the beefier suspension (5/8" sway bar, 7 leaf rear spring), too.

What's the Time/Built date on the trim tag? The last February car was #5183. March 1, 1970 was a Sunday.

I agree with Mike. An engine assembled on January 10th would usually have been installed in a January built car, but the 1970 production year was not a typical production year.
