I need to get new front calipers, are all the re-manufactured ones you get at NAPA, Auto Zone, etc. the stainless steel sleeved O-ringed or should I be looking for a particular brand, part number... What am I looking for? Thanks
please i am losing touch with reality very fast but do not go for rebuilt calipers by any means.my experience with rebuilt fronts was a nightmare.both rears ok and don't know why.lone star was the answer to the problem.new castings made all the difference.good luck! yes ss sleeved o ring.

I bought and installed the 76 front calipers per my professional mechanic buddy's recommendation from Auto Zone, ss sleeved, with a life time guarantee and never had a problem. My buddy told me eventually they will leak as they are a fixed caliper. Shimming or truing up the rotor to less than .003 runout will help.
I would agree that all new is good too, and I can appreciate others have had bad experiences with Autozone/rebuilt calipers, but I would have to say my limited experience is good.

Hi A-B,
Not sure what kind of time or budget you have to work with and only wanted to express my satisfaction with the VB&P products I installed, several years ago. SS, sleeved and because I did all 4 corners simultaneously, I couldn't be happier that these units have been trouble free.
If yours are in good shape and SS sleeved then just get the total rebuild kit from VB&P. New o-ring seals with new designed pistons. Simple and easy and I did mine over a weekend with the majority of the time being dry time for the paint on the caliper body itself. It really is an easy job. You should also think about replacing the rubber hoses on all 4 corners too for safety sakes!
