putting my 68 coupe back together after complete body off resto...i know that there are a number of places that call for a capacitor (primarily for radio noise reduction if i understand correctly?).....anyway, i have one mounted on back of tach, and plugged in, i have one on my external regulator, and one on my flasher unit under r/h dash panel....i'm getting ready to install my center instrument bezel/gauges and notice an old capacitor mounted on the back side, but not plugged into anything. how important is it that i perhaps get a new one, and make sure it is in place? where was this one on the back of the center gauge bezel originally plugged into? just don't want to get everything back together and regret not including something that i need.......thanks, Rick
Hum... I know the answer... lol.. How about a trade Raz. Can you get me the measurements on the bracket that mounts the shroud to the radiator support on your 390 h/p car. The one in my shop is missing it and we'll have to fab something up.
How important are the caps.. pretty important if you are running the stock radio. They keep the whine noise out.
The one on the back of the center dash cluster goes on the amp gauge. you slide the single finger under the terminal and plug in. I've got the aim pic on the site but I'm trying to find it..

thanks Ernie, i will take pictures of my radiator shroud, bracket and air dam configuration tonight, then i can explain what your options are. (i've been through this)
the capacitor that you say slides into the amp gauge, seems to me that is a 2 terminal plug, which side does the cap plug in with? and how do i know if a capacitor is still good? is this something i can pick up at the parts store? (more concerned about the one in the center gauge cluster because it would be a PITA to get to that one later) Rick
also Ernie, i need some kind of black functional seat belt system for my car(just lap belts)...do you have anything that would utilize the original mounting points? i have the bolt hole under the seat and the guides over by the door jam area, and the studs between the seat to bolt other belt to... perhaps you could steal the originals off of the car you are working on, and send them to me? (just a thought, perhaps we shouldn't discuss this option on a public forum...) LOL, Rick

Reason: cuz
How do you test them.. I use a capacitance meter... you won't have one. I doubt they are bad though and you can reach this one from the passenger side dash area if removed so I'd roll with it.
As far as the wire... top one...
The bracket we are missing is the bracket that bolts to the fan shroud and to the bracket that is welded top center of the core support. I may be able to give this a go without anything. I have an original center (core support) bracket so I could probably use this as a reference point.
thanks again Ernie, i'll post a pic in the morning of my bracket and shroud....how bout seat belts (aftermarket, functional) for my car, ya got something? Rick
Rog.. Thanks... but I just had my guys fabricate one up using my new bracket as a template for where the holes go... Were good to go. I'll start looking for the original bracket and this one will have to work until then. I'll check on the belts later tonight.. Heading out for the day in 1 minute.

i might take a pic anyway just to show you what i ended up doing......stupid question maybe, but is a capacitor and a condenser the same thing?? Raz (not Rog) LOL
Raz... <-- I'm sorry... There is a Rogman on here too.. Pretty good fella too.. so your in good company.
There is no difference between a condenser and capacitor. Condenser came from the old pointed ignition systems... Capacitor is what they really are... I get this question 100 times a year too..

here ya go Ernie, this is what i ended up doing for now (since original 68' BB bracket is like hens teeth) this is 69 and up bracket, works fine and didn't require any drilling or anything, so that i can actually replace it with correct bracket if/when i find it. looks like you guys did pretty much the same thing! i will check out the seat belts, thanks, Rick
Thanks Rick.. I started to use the 69 bracket but the AIM showed the holes be elongated. I figured if I was putting something on the mill it may as well be a full fab.. But actually it was a pretty quick job.
Can you believe the bozo's that installed this engine painted the intake and complete engine black.. lol
