Default 73 decode

here a picture of the trim tag it reads:

L07

TRIM 412 972 PAINT

http://s350.photobucket.com/user/dir...ary/73%20vette

I had started another thread but it had shifter info , wife being a smart ***, and was a few weeks old, I figured I would do one just on the trim tag

I have found glass work along the front of the floors under the carpet thanks to a busted oil line. and there is a small patch on the front of the drivers front fender.
if some replaced the front clip, would that include the tag, I can't seem the find any frame damage. and most stuff looks to be original never unassembled , or atleast together for a long time.

also I thought I was seeing black , red, silver paint layers. but would the black the factory gel coating and this car being an originally red car. I can only find red and silver over spray

interior parts look to be a maroon color painted tan

also are there any hidden vins to check?

Neither 972 nor 412 are 73 numbers. They are both 72.
972 is classic white
412 is blue vinyl

Tag may not be a 73 tag or your 73 could be a 72? What is your VIN?

The factory didn't use gel coat at all, never mind black gel coat.

ok. after googleing 73 vette birdcage images, I think my car must of had this done, because when I had the interior out for the seat belts, the vertical panel behind the seats isn't quite flush to the hump under the e-brake console, plus the 2 rivits are still in the panel but not into the floor hump.

is this leagle?, the vin matches title , plate and engine.

can I get a 73 vin plate, is that leagle?

Your VIN looks correct for a 73. Have a look at his site:

http://www.73spot.com/index_stats_files/s_vin.htm

Replacing the VIN tag is not legal but replacing the trim plate ( probably) is if it bothers you. Not sure where you'd find a 73 plate to match your interior though.

There's at least one guy that sells repro trim tags. In addition to being fairly expensive they make the car smell slightly of counterfeit. Since your original tag is gone and you have no real idea what the original colour scheme was and would have to guess at the trim tag date, your repro tag would stink strongly of counterfeit.

if my car has a 72 bird cage, would this make the rear window removeable, seem that the rear window trim doesn't fit to well, has a gap all the way around.

I got arrested for that.

Your bird cage could be 73. First part of the VIN indicates a 73. Your trim tag is apparently from a 72.

72 rear windows are removable; 73 rears are not removable. Be aware that does not necessarily prove anything since a previous owner could have installed the 68-72 removable window in a 73.

ok. back on this trim tag stuff,
the tag had signs of red paint, like it was taped off badly.

I decided to pull the tag, the car is white under the tag, but I noticed several rivets on this upright panel. also noticed a piece of steel welded to the frame in the LR wheel well
near the turn up. thinking car was in an accident and maybe had the frame straightened and replacement of some body panels.
also found what I believe to be 2nd owner on FB. she won't answer my friend request or any thing about the vette. maybe accident was fatel to someone.
