Great looking car! 2 questions. Talk a little more about "stripping old wax". In many years of taking care of cars, I've never done this. Also tell me about your wheels. That's a great look on that car!

Gorgeous! I often tell guys to get the car mechanically sound and drive it! Once it's restored, it takes an hour of cleaning just to go for a Sunday ride. I'm GUILTY! LOL
By the way what make and size tires? Perfect period correct wheels!

I went over the car where needed with bug and tar remover, then remove most of the old wax by washing a time or two using dish washing detergent like Dawn.

The wheels are American Racing Classic Torque Thrust, PN CL205686140, 16x8 TT 3.

I usually only go to that much trouble about once a year. This was the first time that I clay barred it though, and to me it really made a difference. It helps to have started out with a great paint job.

The tires are BF Goodrich Traction T/A's, same size all the way around (so I can rotate them regularly). Size is 225/60 R16, 98V M+S. They don't quite fill the wheel well as much as I'd like, so I may go with a little different size next time. However, I've never had any rubbing problems with them in the front when turning.

For the last 2 years I've been toying with the idea of different wheels. Can't make a decision!! I restored the car in 93. At that time I installed 245/60/15 Eagle directional Gatorbacks on the rear and 225's on the front. 8k miles later, it's time to change. You're correct, I couldn't rotate. Backs are perfect, fronts aren't. BFG's are about the only 15's available today. I was looking at Diamonback Tire Co. They have BFG's in 15's and a few other makes in the larger size. They'll take the tires and REDLINE them. My car is a 70 350/350 Donnybrook green. Maybe a 16 chrome rally and I'll paint a small (3/8 wide) pinstripe around the wheel. But I've always been partial to T D's. I fell in love with them in the early 70" watching the 60's corvette's at Lime Rock Race track. You've got a nice looking car.

Beautiful red... what a great way to cruise into your next show.

Thanks for sharing and keep us posted on the results, once the weather breaks enough to show off that beast.

Continued to tinker on the engine bay. I replaced the radiator with an aluminum rad with dual spal fans this year. So far I'm happy with the change, it sure does open up the area ahead of the engine, and no more hot wind in the face when doing running adjustments to the engine. Just been cleaning the engine bay up a little the last few days.

I realized that today is an anniversary, as I purchased her back on May 21, 1980, 33 years ago . She was a mess back then, and I had more time than money but it's an experience I don't regret. The driveline was (still is) OEM numbers matching, and I've saved all the relevant original parts that came with it. Pic's below are after I pulled the engine.

The body work was the major hurdle, but the mechanicals were pretty good, and the interior was pretty solid, I ended up recovering the seats and putting in new carpet, otherwise it's all original.

It took a while, what with finishing school, getting on to work, getting married, having kids etc etc, but got it all together and on the road again in 2005. So far I've put over 20K miles on her, and she runs great. The weekend is around the corner, and the weather is looking pretty good at the moment .

Happy anniversary! WoW!.. Great pics. A labor of love. Is it the 300 or 350 HP? I see the 350 HP valve covers. Was the original color yellow? My 70 is the 350 HP. I just purchased a few gallons of gas for the up coming LONG weekend. With the 11 to 1 compression, I mix 1 gallon of 110 octane leaded fuel with 2.5 gal of 93. Trying to achieve 100 total. My anniversary will be in Oct. (29 years). Heck, I still have my first dirt bike, a 73 Yamaha DT250. Good things are worth hanging on too.
Hey, have yourself a joyous long weekend. No speeding tickets!

It's the 300 base HP 350, bored .030 over, 11:1 CR, 461 heads, LT-1(hydraulic) cam, balanced and blue printed, cross drilled and chamfered crank. Intake is aftermarket LT-1 design. The original color was Monza red, code 972, so I repainted it to the original color. I guess the previous owner liked yellow. I have the timing delayed a bit and use octane booster in it, and it runs fine, very smooth idle and no pinging when I wring it out. She's topped off and ready to run this weekend .
