Default 68 door glass

I’m in the process of working on the door glass in my ‘68 convertible with power windows. The door glass on the driver’s side is in good condition I will try and replace and clean up all mounting hardware. The passenger side is a different story the glass will have to be replaced my questions are can I use a glass from a 69 (the reason I ask is that I have a 69 convertible that I am parting out that has a very good glass in it) either by using the glass by itself or can the glass and mounting hardware from a ’69 be used in a ’68? I believe the glass is the same except for the possibility of different holes in the glass. If the mounting hardware in a ’69 can be used is it worth doing both doors. I have the door hardware from both doors available if needed.
Thanks in advance for your feedback.

The door glass in a early 69' could be the same as the 68', 7 hole I believe. The later 69' glass is 5 hole. In order to use the later 69' glass I would think you will need to move the track hardware along with the 69' glass.

Are you concerned with date codes?

If you have an early 69 door, the glass will work. If it's a late 69-75 door, the glass, track, etc are different.

I might be comparing apples and oranges, both the 69's I did with power don't have an adjustment on the upper window track to allow window to be tipped side to side. the 68's I did had manuel windows both had these adj, don't know if the 68 p/w had them. also there is a difference in the whiskers and seals from 68& 9 also between coupe & conv.

Thanks, everyone for the feedback there is defiantly different mountings for the bottom of the windows, the window guides I’m not sure. As far as date codes at this time I want a good window the window that I will be using is an original December ’68 window. The outer moldings are the same, the inner and outer whiskers and seals are different. I will be using the correct whiskers and seals for both doors.
I will work on the power window regulators very carefully to make sure I don’t create other problems.

68 door glass has the bottom cut out for the 68 mounting system. It is not just added holes to the glass. The 69-77 glass with the single horizontal track fits fine in the 68 doors. I changed mine years ago. I think that the vertical tracks are the same until around 1978. Lou.

I have removed the window from the ’69 I agree the window mounting from ’68 to ’69 have gone through major changes. After reviewing the condition of both window mounting I can see why the changes, with the ’68 design any water running down the inside or outside of the window will set on the mounting hardware eventuality rusting the metal away. The ’69 mounting hardware will let water run past and not creating a trap that can retain water. The window track on each side as well as the motor mounting, and actuating mechanism seem to be unchanged from ’68 to ’69. The track mounting across the bottom is different but will work; I will have a ’68 on the driver’s side and ’69 on the passenger side.
