Default What Fresh Hell is THIS?

Freshening up my gauge console and replacing the oil gauge required I removed the cluster...

After removing it I noticed a more than usual accumulation of dust and dirt on top of my org AM/FM stereo radio.... Upon further inspection it seems the oil pressure gauge was leaking and oil was dripping on top of and into the radio (probably for a long time.)

I removed the radio to find oil all inside and especially in the radio bulb socket (I was looking to replace the bulb since I had everything apart).

I have not opened the radio yet but how do I clean the oil out of the inside components? Last I used the radio it worked... I dont want an aftermarket radio.

If it were me, I'd get as much as possible with some q-tips. Then maybe some rubbing alcohol on a q-tip to sort the residue. Have a look. Might not be as bad as you think.

Get some electronic component spray from Radio Shack or other electronic store. I use it lots to clean these type of components. Works very well and dries very fast. Won't hurt the parts.

Yes. I was thinking of that. I'll try it and report back...

well , if its worth anything, my oil line broke , soaking my CD/radio in oil twice.
I left it sit turned up on end for a few days then just wiped down the out side and then reinstalled. still workes fine.

Don't forget to post some pics. My radio light bulb is out and I'm interested to see what I'm in for!

I think those old radios require some zinc in the oil.

If your Radio has been sitting for a while, be sure to prime it first...

Collect the blinker fluid that might be leaking and sprinkle it over the radio.

Just have to keep the blinker fluid thread going.

You have to drive backwards really fast for 40+ years and you will start to hear the music from 69. I did that in my 71 and started to hear Stairway To Heaven!

Yes, the Lab can, when you send it out for an oil analysis. You may find that there is a high concentration of Heavy Metal(s).
