1969 dipstick
Wrong. I went to Ecklers and ordered one for the 327 engine. Only to find out when I got it it sticks out about 6 inches too long.
I contacted Ecklers asking them if they had a shorter one and all 3 they sell are 24 inches long. A tech there says I must have a small oil pan.
Anyone out there can shed some lite on this?
I am thinking of cutting a hunk off the one they sent so it fits.
ALL 65-74 small block Corvettes use the same dipstick. The overall length of it is a little less than 24", and it uses a tube that is 9 1/4" long, from the flange to the end of the tube. According to the Corvette parts book, the dipstick measures 20 5/32" from the Full mark to the handle, and 20 59/64" from the Add mark to the handle.
I don't have an overall length for 58-64 dipsticks, but the parts book shows them to be 19 3/16" from the Full mark to the handle and 20" from the Add mark to the handle. 58-64 dipsticks use a tube that is 8 1/4" from the flange to the end.
There were various different dipsticks used from 75-82, but I don't know that any of them were only 19" long.
If the correct dipstick doesn't work, the OP has to figure out what dipstick tube, and oil pan he has. All 63-79 small blocks (except 63-65 solid lifter 327's and 70-72 LT-1's, without PS), used the same basic 4 quart capacity pan. Even with the wrong pan, the sump would need to be in about the same location, and should except the Corvette dipstick.
