Sorry to revive a older thread but if I may ask!

Has anyone tried the "Champion" 4 row/core radiator instead of the 3 core/row in a C3 with the small block motor? If so how was the fit and did it help with cooling? The way I see it, you can never have to much cooling capacity and for the extra $60.00 more why not, if it fits just as well.

Question:

Does the Champion 4 core/row radiator fit just as well in our C3's or does the extra row cause a problem in the small block motor coupes due to the shroud/cowl/radiator support etc?

I believe the big blocks with a/c came with 4 core but I don't know if the radiator support etc where different.

I think you might have fitment issues with a 4 core, the three was pretty snug. I really don't think you will have any cooling issues with the three. Just my .02 though.

Thanks for the reply alconk.

I figured there maybe fitment issues which is the reason I thought I'd post and ask. Engine hp has been double from stock number (wasn't much to begin with), but average now at best. I just figured it would be a bit of insurance for not much more money.

Question again.......has anyone installed the Champion 4 Core with the small block set up?

Default Did you ever get an answer?

I have been wondering the same thing. Need a new radiator and was thinking Champion 4 Core. can't justify DeWitts or Ron Davis.
Thanks.Kev

You have to change the rubber mount cushions for the larger radiator. Core thickness isn't the issue with a swap. The tanks change to a different thickness. I went from a factory three row to a factory replacement copper/brass four row in my 80. All I did was buy the mount cushions from a 78 HD radiator and the new radiator bolted right in. The newer radiator required the earlier larger diameter top hose but that is the only difference. It works great. Everything fits down to the factory shroud.
