That is something that you can try and experiment with, but I don't know if I would want to rely on the aux as my only cooling option. With your new switch it may work out just fine. I don't recall if those motors on that fan were designed to run at a more continuous operation, and I would imagine that the relay "gwank" suggested would help protect it......

Do you think that would be fine?? That fan has some heavy gauge wiring going to it.

I'm running a single 16'' Spal with the stock shroud. it works fine 90% of the time. However, if it is extremely hot out and I'm using the A/C, the temp creeps up at idle. I'm eventually going to go to the dual 11'' spal setup

I have my spal mounted the same way as the factory AUX fan, so on wicked hot days I just throw the mech fan back in.

Would you happen to have a picture? Did you mount it in the same oem brackets?

no, I used brackets to mount it onto the radiator itself, but it sits in the same exact spot as the original AUX fan. I was going to try using just the AUX fan on a relay, but since it was so old I didn't trust it as my only cooling option

Finally had to put the mechanical fan back on the aux. fan is just that, not made for primary cooling. Temps were creeping up in stop and go traffic.

Glad you put it back in, or go to an electric unit as suggested by other members. Is your system working properly? Are your temps at the levels you expect them to be?
BTW, how much were they creeping up, I'm assuming you still have the CC aux fan temp switch in, did you reconnect it?

Yes I did reconnected the switch and the system is working great. In stop and go traffic on a 85 deg day it was straight up on the gauge past the 200 mark. Enough that it was making me nervous.

good deal, especially with the hot weather here, we want our rides to stay as cool as can be, nothing worse then sitting in traffic with a very hot high temp engine.......I think we all get nervous when that happens.
