L 48 piston codes
I have a 75 C3 with the L48, finely opened it up to check for rebuild and found massive amounts of sludge from previous owner, so bad I had to dig out the rockers and the head bolts,pulled center main cap and #2 piston, main bearing, was not to bad, rod bearing wood not last for long, oil ring is slugged up and will not move, compression rings are free, piston shows very little ware on shirt, the ring ware on the cylinders is almost nothing at all you cannot even hook it with you finger nail on it. The compression on each cylinder was 120 and the eng did not smoke when last run. It did have popping noise from the intake at wide open. The pistons have letter codes on top, some in the middle, others between the valve cut outs. there
are 4 H, 2 G, 1 J and 1 K. It is standard bore 4.0 are the letters a weight code or a shirt size code.
