1977 steering column reassembly
I disassembled the steering column to replace the ignition switch a few years ago. I could not figure out how to reinstall the c clip. We were in the middle of tearing the car down for a frame off and the column was left at this stage of reassemble for three years. Now I have the body back on the car and we are once again trying to figure out how to reinstall the c clip while pressing the shaft lock plate.
I have called called Ecklers, Wilcox, and Big City Corvettes and while everyone has been nice, most have not been able to give me advice other than look on youtube (which has no 1977 c clip installs)
The gentleman at Wilcox said I should post it on here so here I am.
I have the steering wheel install tool that is advertised for the job but no instructions or photos. I can't figure out what to leverage off of. The steering column which is what is normally used is not secure until the c clip is in place. Having torn the car all the way down and now having it 3/4 of the way back together I have been able to figure out most other challenges but this has me stumped. If anyone has done this procedure and can give some advice/ photos I would be very grateful and would be willing to name my first child after you.
