New C3,.engine decoding

New C3,.engine decoding
Just picked up a 1975 C3 today. It is an original L82. It has the correct L82 VIN#. my question is about the engine number.
The first set of numbers match the VIN#,...all good,..verifying it is in fact a true matching number L82 car and engine.
However,..the last set of numbers on the engine has me stumped. As best I can make out,...the last set of numbers is VO312CHO.
Does this sound right? If so, what does this number sequence mean?
