Default How many 73 Z07's are left

Besides me, who else has a 73 Vette Z07 convertible/hardtop stingray? Only 45 were produced by Duntov in 73.

Zora Duntov did not produce the Z07; it was an options package. Unless someone tracked each of the 45 cars from the day they were produced, no one knows how many have survived.

Do you have documentation confirming your car is a genuine Z07?

Indeed I do, I have the original Dealers invoice, numbers matching, engine code, showing all the Options;
L-82, M-21 Close Ratio Trans, No air, Off Road Suspension/Brakes (which is the Z07 option). The Collector I bought car from allowed inspection to prove the seven leave springs w/front stabilizer, sway bar, bigger brakes (heavy duty) 2 cotter pins per caliber and several other options mentions on invoice, leather interior, map light, tilt wheel, PW, PS. Car was meticulously maintained with all receipts.

Default Z07 Option

The Z07 option pertained to high performance suspension and big (heavy duty) Brakes. RPO Z07 option was only placed in 45 Vettes that year, which makes it today a rare car!

The Z07/J56 brakes are not 'bigger'. Same rotors, same basic calipers as all other C3s. The only differences are calipers are drilled to accept two pad retaining pins, an additional caliper mounting bracket and the pads have a revised rear plate to resist warping. They don't brake any better than regular C3 brake, just resist fading better.

Interesting thread. Why did GM label it as "off road suspension"? Did they really think that a corvette would be taken "off roading"?

They didn't mean "off pavement". They meant off of public roads as in at the race track.

off public roads .....LoL not four wheeling

SCCA events and such road course racing. Sebring, VIR type tracks

Those special brake pads are expensive I recaLL....

I have only seen 1 Z07 in person , it was a 74 L82 M21......now its been 20 years ago since I inspected that car, seems that it also had a special brake valve set up that allowed adjustment of the front /rear brake bias.

The option Z07 was/is pretty uncommon as it was quite pricey for the day and required other options as well , most buyers by then weren't interested in such stuff. The option ran though 1975, the last hurray for this series of offroad package.

It was many years into owning corvettes , that I ever actually read up on the Z07 myself.

I can tell this, its looks nothing like the Vette pictured above!! Its your typical convertible, it just has that added option. I'll post Vette pics.

Not sure about the 1973 version but the 1969 version did have different pistons than the normal street versions. They had a thicker heat resistant cap( I would guess it's called ) on the pistons. Other than that they were the same . ----- Ken

Yes you're right, the earlier editions had insulated pistons. Somewhere I recall reading that this were discontinued prior to '73.
