I understand why the driver parked like that, he wants to protect his car against careless door openers, but at the same time draws negative attention to himself. Sort of a no win for him.

He sought employment elsewhere after that.

When I want to park my car safe I usually get the end spot in the parking lot and park as far over into it that I can. So that even if someone parks next to me they shouldn´t hit the car.

But the only safe place to park is in your garage. So if you are worried about a parking lot chip leave it home.

I drive a truck every day, and aim for the island spaces because my vehicle is about as wide as the parking spaces themselves.

I get as close to the curb as possible. Twice at this job I've had to squeeze into my truck because some ******* in a small car parked INSIDE MY SPACE. Once I had to go in from the passenger side.

And people ask why I don't commute in either of my vettes...

Not intentionally, I own a mega cab dodge diesel truck. We took my son to the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville and was staying at a hotel there. We went to the movies on our last night there. We got back late, around midnight and parked in the back of the parking lot. The parking spaced at the hotel were the smallest i've ever seen. The truck was parked by my son and the tires were on the line. The next morning we checked out of the Hilton and found a nasty note on the windshield and the drivers side was keyed from the drivers door to the front of the fender. What a sorry end to a trip to the Mayo Clinic. So if you think I deserved this, it's your opinion just don't complain when someone does it to you!

I don’t believe there is a problem with people taking two spaces as long as they do it in the back of the lot, which most people do. Now that I think about it, it kinda seems foolish to do this as no one parks next to them anyway because it is at the back of the lot. Anyway, I don’t agree that it is ever OK to key someone's car. A note left on the windshield or chalk on the ground around the car, that’s a different story....
I have to admit, I have parked that way a few times and when I do, it's always in the back of the lot. 99% of the time, I park towards the back anyway. It has payed off as I do not have door dings on any of my vehicles (as of yet) and honestly, no one has ever informed me in any way that they were upset that I parked the way I did. Maybe just lucky so far....

Yeah but an empty lot when you park may fill up when an event starts next door. Then your "that guy" anyway. I saw a dirty porsche Cayman today with a twig and berries drawn onto the dirt on the hood right above the emblem. I don't condone this as it leaves scratches, but still got a chuckle. He wasn't even parked wrong.

Once while doing a job at a local bank ,I had to park over the line outside a parking stall. This was due to someone else parking stupid before me,and the other cars had to follow suit.As there were no other spaces available I had to park taking up two stalls.Completed my job about 30 min later. The cars next to me left making me look like the A$$hole! Lady came up to my window cussed me out turned me in to my employer and I got chewed out again by the boss.Save everyone the grief and park in the stall! Don't want door dings park at the end of the lot.....I do all the time a short walk will do you good and keep your car ding free, except for those self guided shopping carts!!

You are correct about the possibility of the lot filling up and being "that guy". But I can say, there is yet to be an event in this area that will fill up any lot. LOL
If that really is a concern, then I take the last parking spot and hug the curb as much as I can as that leaves lots of room on one side and no possibility for a door strike on the other and I just deal with the walk.
