Default hinge pillar repair question

Hello All,

I would like to repair the hinge pillars on my 69 (see pic). My question are:
Do I have to remove the front clip to do this?
If yes, would someone send me a link to how this is done? I need something with good instructions. i can do it but need lots of information before I start.

Thanks,

andy

Is your hinge pillar rusted? If it is you'll be better off pulling the front clip and firewall to gain complete access to the birdcage. Here's a link to a web site showing how the clip may be removed. Note the author was documenting as he was learning. He should have used a heat gun to soften the bonds as he did for the rear clip.

The AIM page you posted shows how the pillars were welded together during birdcage assembly.

Other than limited access from inside the car (hinges), you cannot get to the pillars with fiberglass in place.

Default front clip

Thanks Mr Mike. Is it necessary to remove the firewall to repair this area?

Show us some pics of whats wrong with your car.

Take a look at my photo album you will see my rockers that I repaired with the rocker channel inserts. I did NOT remove my firewall or birdcage it was all done from underneath the body while on a body dolly.

This inst for the faint of heart. If you have rot there then I am sure you have it at the #3 and #4 mounts as well as a perforated windshield header and corners. Take a look at my photos and you will see whats involved.
