I've searched the C3 forum and haven't seen much on the topic. Just a question for you all...? I don't know if I'm trying to justify my decision or not (Dart SHP 400), but I've noticed a lot of 400/406 SBCs really performing well and consistently...typically mid 9s to mid 10s on the motor. I'm stoked or at least feeling justified in my decision...just wanted to get some thoughts from the group because I rarely see larger larger small blocks or standard sized big blocks being used. Maybe a handful of 421s...
BTW, I'm not a fanatic of the show or anything, just peruse it at times when I'm feeling lazy and not much else is on...
My buddy Matt was on that show with his 95 Dodge Stealth TT. He put down a 9.60. It is on You tube. A couple weeks prior to that he set the worlds record for fastest S/3000 with a 8.7 @166. Sorry has nothing to do with Pass Time, but I saw your post and instantly thought of him.
Mid 10's on a 406 motor is definately doable-mid 9's also doable but certainly anywhere in that range will require other mods and depending on how fast will definately hurt streetability.
Anywhere in that range will certainly require a good th350 or th400 trans with an 8" converter-unless you have a REAL stout manual (and know how to drive it). 3:73 to 4:11 gears.
Also what will you do about the rear?
At 3400lb raceweight you will need about 525 crank hp to run 10.50 with the right trans, converter, rear and gears and thats if you can 60' the car properly. You will need to cut in the high 1.3 range in the 60' to to get the # NA. This at least you can do on pump gas.
Now in the same set up you will need to have an upwards of 750+ crank hp to run mid 9's. That means high compression which means racegas and a very low 1.3 60'
I have a 406 in my car-I considered the SHP as well but they are only good to 600hp from what I remember and I want to compete in the 10.0 index so I will need more that 600 hp on hotter days (will use nitrous). I went with the Dart Little M instead.
