Default big day at last

Finally taking the vette into the painter today. Actually down to the painter as I'm driving it into Mexico. I have photos of of ontario orange firemist (1972), slick sand, capt. lee's and evercoat filler so there's no confusion about what I want. My interpreter is a multi return customer of Heriberto "El pintor" as am I. Having the usual case of the jitters leaving the car with someone for so long. I once made the mistake of dropping in before the primer was on and almost freaked when I saw the gloppy stripper mess on my Nova Wagon. Won't do that again, gotta have some faith. Thanks to you forum members for all the help.

Heriberto and tight crew, the XJ12C Jaguar before any work, paint booth, scenic trip down in Jag. These guys usually use the razor blade method of paint removal. Labor is cheap and with small high end jobs they have alot of patience. He usually shoots Dupont brands and 2 stage, but does lacquer on demand. The Jag was $1700, complete color change, all surfaces, an air effects kit and lots and lots of metal work (filled side marker lights, tail lights, some rot and handled an incredibly thick coat of filler primer from the factory)

I hope it all goes smooth.

A friend of mine has an uncle down in Yuma. Apparently a place across the border does fairly good paint for very low prices. The uncle has had work done in the past.
So a fellow co worker hears this and takes a Mercedes Benz to the uncle, they cross into mexico and visit the shop. The car turns out pretty good, re did the interior for dimes on the dollar too.
The co worker made a pretty tidy profit flipping the car back in Phoenix.
He buys a Fiat, takes it to the same place. Just about lost everything this time. Thankfully my friends uncle also knew the local cop in the town, had to basically steal his car from the shop owner. It was actually pretty hairy how it all went down. Bottom line, the co worker is out of the car flipping market and not going anywhere near Mexico. Have a nice day.

I am sure they do great work, but I think your bat sh@t crazy for taking a car across the border these days, especially with all the drug wars going down. Good luck. And on top of it, your taking work away from the good ol Usa. Hope all turns out good for ya.

Default hum?

Don't believe everything you see and hear on the boob tube. Didn't see any bodies in ditches or hear any automatic weapons fire. And they don't get to do the drugs down there - it's just for us Americans. And last time I looked hundreds of "good 'ol American" corporations (Ford, Chevy, Masterlock, etc.) had factories in Mexico, saving themselves millions of dollars. I look at it this way. What little money I exchange with Heriberto ($1800 by the way) goes to feeding his family and the poor bastards that work at the shop for squat per day, NOT some desk jockey *%$ that pushes paper at the EPA. Next time you go to a corporate restaurant take a look in the kitchen, everyone in there is from down in Mexico, except of course the executive chef, he'll be white. They're making more in a week than they could in a month back home. I'm sure it'll all turn out good for us all.
