Default Most Memoriable Corvette Moment

For me nothing beats going out into the country on a perfectly clear summer night with no direction, the t-tops off, John Major on the stereo, and just gazing up at the stars. Well, except when I take the women I'm going to marry out to do this for the first time. How about you guys? Most memorable corvette moment/moments?

The day I bought the car.

I saw an ad online and told my wife "you better come with me to stop me from buying it if you think I shouldn't".

We looked at the car all over, looked like a 38 year car would look and then had the guy start the car....my wife just looked at me and said "SOLD".

I will never forget it.

Trying to get the turn signal switch wiring through the steering column with the column still in the car. (yeah, I used the trick where you connect the old wires to the new ones, a few of 'em pulled out).

Lots of crying happened.

We incorporated a family va ca when I checked out my '66. Was the first time our boys stayed at a hotel, and that was really cool to them. My wife said she would feel the car was for me if it took her breath away when she first saw it. The seller was to meet us in the morning in the hotel parking lot, and as we were ready to meet him, the car approached. She looked at me and said, "Yeah, this is your car".

Too many to mention but...originally ordered a '77 in Dec 76 and picked it up in April '77...met my wife had two kids and now its 25 years later...(had to sell her in '81) purchased another '77 ten years ago and took my son (now 17 at the time) to pick the new car up, took it out on Hwy 400 for a "test run" with him beside me, told him to hold on...the smile on his face was priceless...wow...Dad...now I know why you loved that car...never sell this one, well, guess, what we still have the second one...maybe someday he will have to fight for it with his sister...lol

My most memorable moment so far was driving with my son to his wedding. We had been rebuilding the car for 3 years and 2 hours before the wedding I was trying to get wiper blades installed because it looked like thunderstorms.

The car had only been driven around the neighborhood for test drives, so I went over and picked up my son at his house. From there we went down the highway doing ~80 all the way with me watching and listening for any parts falling off.

We made it to the wedding with at least 10 minutes to spare.

My best moment so far was the drive back from buying it. Yeah the engine ticked, the headlights didn't go down, the radio didn't work, the paint wasn't great, and the interior was shot, but dammit I was in a Vette, MY VETTE, and I couldn't have been happier. I've got better moments to come I'm sure, but thats just part of the fun!

2. First day of ownership. Friday after Thanksgiving, at the Corvette Museum in Bowling Green. 40F, drizzle, getting dark... on my back trying to wiggle under the car to check the starter to try & get the car started to continue the 1100mi trip home. Thankfully my wife & 6 month old daughter had flown home earlier while I drove the new "toy".

1. The smile on my daughter's face 16 years later, as she drove off in the same C3, now HER car.

Found my '73 in the Phoenix area and flew out to check it out. Bought it and drove it back to Texas. On the trip back, the road I was on merged with another near Tucson. As I was merging, a dozen or so Harley riders blew past me on their motorcycles from the other road. All at once the entire group slowed down, they all checked out the Vette, there were a lot of thumbs up and then they thundered off again. That was my introduction to the attention this Vette gets which continues to amaze me.

Driving down a country road at night with thousands of fireflies and T-tops off. When the fireflies would light up just as you passed them they would look like a streak of light going past your head. It was an awesome sight.

The day I bought it i drove her almost 800 miles from Philadelphia to Chicago. During this trip it was the first time I drove through a tunnel and heard her roar.

It was 1960; I was 5yrs old. My dad, uncle, and I were at a red light. The right side of the intersection had the green. A 58/59/or 60 vette--red w/white coves, red interior--was making a left in front of us. The woman passenger was laying face down on the driver's lap, he had a BIG grin on his face as he looked at us. My dad and uncle were laughing and made some comments that I couldn't understand. I do now...

Blowing up the clutch the first night I had the car registered, and then running over my own foot with the car as I pushed it away from a traffic light. Good times, good times.

Really can't elaborate here. Has something to do with staying out until 3am in a very small town in East TX. Her name was Rebecca. Oh yeah, '76 L82 white with grey interior. mike...

I think the O.P. meant "women" in the plural context. I sure would have. Chicks back then loved the Vette.
