Im taking the instrument cluster out and the tach and speedometer wires are stuck. Not knowing for sure if they pulled or twisted I moved to another area. Do they simply pull out like the bulbs or do they twist off?
Are you talking about the cables? There's a clip that holds the cables on the back of each. On the back just below where the cable attaches, you push the clip toward the face of the instrument and the cable slides off. Picture of the clip so you know what you're looking for: http://www.ecklerscorvette.com/corve...1969-1982.html
On the tach cable.. take it loose from the distributor, this will allow you to pull the pad forward and reach behind to disconnect.
On the speedo, you can do the same but its too hard.. so you'll have to get that clip pushed down. The best advice I can give you is to push the cable toward the dash pad, then push the clip inward, the pull outward on the cable.
Great, thanks for the help, I have the the factory assembly manual but didnt see mention of the clip. Could have missed it
You might put a piece of tap on the finger your going to push with too... it makes it easier on your finger. Just remember to push the cable housing inward and then push the clip... if you don't it can be a real bear.
